The Plan
Starting by the Mediterranean, make our way home to Salzburg using only our feet and a paraglider as transport. Self supported with tent, food and water (resupplying along the way). Fully loaded our bags weigh about 25kg.
Before the Trip
Due to "lockdown" in Austria we had a great amount of time during the winter to prepare for this trip. Planning consisted of lots of physical training (mostly ski touring, also a few Hike+Fly trips in spring), skill training (mostly toplanding practice and acro flying to stay current), route planning (mostly done during the trip, but we made some vague plans of where to go) and researching and testing equipment (too much time spent watching tent reviews on youtube).
Test Night
We did one test night up in the local mountains before we left. Thermaling up in the late afternoon we top-landed on one of the local peaks (2100m) to sleep the night. It was May so it was extremely cold and we struggled to stay warm in the spring temperatures. We discovered a few important things we needed to change and that a solid night of sleep was never a guarantee. Sunset was epic.
Garda
Before the trip we went to Garda for a week. Daniel was sharpening up his stalls while I did acro runs with some good friends. One of my all-time favourite places with some of my all-time favourite people!
We were also well rewarded with some amazing soaring sessions up on Monte Baldo with hours of wagga and wingtip touches.
Also the logisitics of getting to our starting point of the trip (Cagnes del Sur) was much easier if we started from Garda rather than Salzburg.
